between 1831 and 1844, william miller--a baptist preacher and former army captain in the war of 1812--launched the "great second advent awakening" which eventually spread throughout most of the christian world.
based on his study of the prophecy of daniel 8:14, miller calculated that jesus would return to earth sometime between 1843 and 1844. others within the movement calculated a specific date of october 22, 1844. when jesus did not appear, miller's followers experienced what became to be called "the great disappointment.

Thinking about taking a break
by Elsewhere ini'm thinking about taking a break from this place for awhile.. one of the reasons i came here was because of the way jws have been so mean to me.
i don't like to see people be mean to each other.. lately i have been seeing people i care about being very mean to each other and me.
i just can't handle that.. please don't be mean.

It was in our Post Dispatch paper yesterday. They are saying the Smallpox vaccinations people got a long time ago aren't any good anymore. They need refreshers in case of bio-terrorism.
They are also warning that the place on your body where you get the vaccine can actually spread it until it heals! ...All these shots and warnings...makes you wonder when the bomb is going to drop!
Then they can say..."Well we tried to warn you!"

Living on the edge
by RubyTuesday ini have a friend that works at diablo canyon nuclear power plant here in california.
pg and e hooked up a load of nuclear fuel to a defected hitch.. (inside sources say that they were well aware of the defect) .
they drove about 40 feet away when the hitch broke and the trailer dropped!.

for similar reasons i believe ray has not supported the issue of child abuse being a problem in the organization to media and by personal comments to persons who ask him privately about this.

I think that Silent Lambs post was excellent! I have to agree with Kelsey though. I think a lot of abuse was hidden!
Even from the Elders.
Child abuse DOES exist in the religion!. In all forms. If it is worse than other religions..I really don't know.
But I do know I never heard of so much abuse in the JW religion until I came to the XJW's sites!
I hope Bill never gives up. I am sorry people seem to feel the need to attack him and also Ray. If the attackers think they are doing such a bad job..why aren't they in there doing something?
I liked the point Bill brought out about seeing someone fall and NOT doing anything to help. I understand completely why he feels as he does now!
I have seen Silent Lambs being slammed by a few others on another XJW board. This breaks my heart. What else do the innocent have ? I don't see the slammers doing anything........Except bad mouthing someone because they DO support Silent Lambs.
That works both ways. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.Why try and turn people against Silent Lambs" if they really support them?
I saw a post where someone just wanted to let new people know there was a site for abused ones to go to. "Silent Lambs". The response she got seemed more like they were trying to discredit HER for encouraging victims to go to Silent Lambs .They didn't seem interested in the victims at all! Then continued on to try and turn the other posters to believe their way!! ...
All she did was post the website. Gee Wiz!
JMO...What do you think? Are the bashers more interested in "Helping the abused victims or proving themselves right?" Do they REALLY care or are they just trying to make themselves important?

Any new halls?

in 1988, every once in a while new halls were being built here and there.
i couldn't pass a month without hearing that a new hall was being built.

Well we live by an assembly hall. It is big and beautiful. (My hubby is a JW.) I got to see the inside when hubby had to talk to the laison committee about their living will .
They are redecorating. I couldn't believe it! It was already beautiful and they are tearing out and replacing the old (beautiful) tile and carpet and also adding an apartment for the Overseer when he visits!. Hubby's JW sister took him on some tours of the WTBTS buildings in NY when he was there. They look like a cathedral! Painted ceilings and all. Cushy theatre seats..Sure wasn't like that when I was a witness. I thought with all th epoor witnesses.. they could lend a helping hand instead of building all those fancy buildings!.
Start someJW schools..Daycare centers for JW's..JW hospital...Get the picture?

They are so busy..hubby had to call THEM and beg them to visit him!..Of course they are very busy on the assembly hall. But they would try and get by! His hall is so big they have 4 congregations that use it. Two in the morning at opposite ends and two in the afternoon. Ministry school is held on opposite nights.
I couldn't believe it! When I used to go... if they had to have two congregations meet in the same hall... it was time to build a new one! (Which the local witnesses did all the work...No pay!)

Hubby gets Scan tomorrow!
by Golden Girl inhe has had 4 chemo treatments and they are giving him a scan tomorrow to see if they are staying the same size or shrinking!
(tumors).he just woke up so i know he is nervous.usually he sleeps good.sure could use some good news!.
i have the feeling they will stop the chemo if it isn't doing any good!.

Well we just got a letter from his Dr that the JW's recommended. He is closing his office and not affiliated with the hospital anymore! He is moving into the city and changing hospitals. Does this sound strange to you?Think he got in some trouble or do they do that sometimes?
The results are that he will be too far away for us to see him. It also means that we can go back to seeing the original Dr that I liked so much better!
Even tho he probably won't get any more chemo..he will still be under a Drs. care for infection etc.So we see his old Dr Tuesday and then the next week I guess we will see the other Dr.
We shall see! Still hoping for a miracle!

Thank you so much for the kind words also.You can't imagine how much that means to me.
Especially since my daughter is in the hospital now. They are running all kinds of tests to see what is hurting her so much. She has lost a lot of weight!..
Just an added note...his JW Mom has macular degeneration..which means she is going blind. But she still drives and reads and sews.
Hubby just told me she asked him how to get to a street in the city here. She wants to go see a specialist for her eyes.Well she will be in town!. But she hasn't said one thing about the "Witness driving her here" to come and see him!.It can't be more than 10 minutes out of the way!.
If she REALLY wanted to see him.......
